Cross Laminated Timber, Mass Plywood Panel and mass timber construction will be the subject of one of the major sessions at the Panel & Engineered Lumber International Conference & Expo (PELICE) to be held April 13-14 at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center in Atlanta, Ga.

The event, which is held every other year, is produced by Panel World magazine.

Day 2: April 14

On the second morning of the conference, Saturday, April 14, two representatives of IB X-LAM USA and two from Freres Lumber will give presentations on their respective projects and products.

IB X-LAM USA is building a cross-laminated timber plant in Dothan, Ala. Steve Lieberman, Senior Product Engineer, will speak on “Cross Laminated Timber Manufacturing in the Southeast U.S.,” and Karl Aicher, Operations Manager, IB X-Lam USA, will talk about “Cross Laminated Timber Facility Startup.”

The IB X-LAM plant will be the first CLT plant in the world that uses southern pine lumber.

Oregon-based Freres Lumber, which operates veneer and plywood plants, has already built and started up a mass plywood panel (MPP) plant in Lyons, Ore. Freres touts MPP as an alternative product to CLT. MPP uses veneer/plywood in its makeup.

Rob Freres, executive vice president, will present “From Concept to Plant Opening, A Learning Experience: Mass Plywood Panel Manufacturing in Oregon.” Tyler Freres, vice president of sales, will speak on “The Technologies Behind Mass Plywood Panel Manufacturing.”

The Saturday morning keynote session will also include Bob Glowinski, president and CEO of American Wood Council. He’ll address mass timber construction as part of his talk, “Rising to New Opportunities: Regulations for Increased Wood Construction.”

Kicking off the Saturday morning session will be Roger Tutterow, Professor of Economics at Kennesaw State University, who is highly regarded for his economics and housing forecast models.

Cost for attendance to the second day of the conference, including access to all speaking sessions, the exhibitor floor of the Grand Ballroom North and the PELICE 10th anniversary brunch is $299.

The cost to attend all of PELICE April 13-14 is $599.
